Dasari's veiled attack on Megastar!

Union Minister Dasari Narayana Rao made some political statements in his brief speech at Okka Magadu's audio launch. In his speech he praised late NTR for telling the world that Telugus are not Madrasis but Andhrulu. Then he termed NTR made history by forming party in a spur of moment and winning the elections within 9 months. "It was history, not publicity stunt", he said indirectly hinting the ongoing speculations about political entry of Megastar. Further comments like "pointing caste, some are trying to divide our nation," prove that he his speech was aimed indirectly at Chiru.

Although Chiru and Dasari belong to same region and community, rumors are that all is not well between them. Or is just case of instigating fans, for dramatic reaction.

Dasari is famous for making speeches that appeases to the each group. If he goes to Chiranjeevi's audio release, he would say the next CM is Megastar. And if he comes to Mohan Babu or NBK's functions, he goes for veiled attack.

'OKKA MAGADU' Audio Launched

Nandamuri Balakrishna - YVS Chowdary's magnum opus Okka Magadu audio was launched at an electrifying and exciting audio function held amidst terrific fanfare at Cyber Gardens, Madhapur.

Nandamuri Balakrishna,K.Raghavendra rao,Dasari Narayanarao,Devi Vara Prasad, T.Trivikramarao,KL Narayana,P.Kiran,Bellamkonda Suresh,Nandamuri Ramakrishna, B.Gopal, SS Rajamouli,Srinu Vytla,Boyapati Srinu, MRV PRasad, R.Narayanamurthy, Ramyakrishna, Anushka,Charmee,Okka Magadu team YVS Chowdary,Kommineni Venkateswararao,Mani Sarma,Chandra bose and others graced the occasion. Dasari Narayanarao launched the audio cassette and SS Rajamouli purchased the first unit.K.Raghavendra rao released the audio CD.

Beyond the expectations of the organisers,Thousands of Nandamuri fans thronged the venue. Many of them can't manage to enter the ground.Organisers aren't able to control the enthusiastic crowd inside the ground.None of the fans remained in their seats, they surrounded the stage and added much heat to the event.

After a long wait, Rajamouli was the first to speak. The camarderie between YVS Chowdary and Rajamouli was visible. Rajamouli said that they industry had given many hits and and super hits but it has thoroughly forgotten what 'shaking' is at the box office. The lion is taking rest and it's gonna wake up on the 11th jan he said amidst deafening applause. He added that he will be the first person to watch Okka Magadu and shout louder than the fans and he signed off saying YVS is the only director who has guts.

Dasari Narayana Rao was the chief guest for the music release of Okka Magadu. Dasari lauded NTR's efforts to heighten and preserve telugu pride and said he was the only actor who who could excelled in all genres like folk, historical, social and none could supercede him in that aspect so far.He is the only person who floated a party and came to power within 9 months. Many actors came, many stars emerged later. But it happened only by NTR.This is not Publicity, this is History."He also said he (Dasari) was the only one who christened NBK as Yuva Ratna. The Minister had a word of praise to the director too.He added, "Lot of people made use of NTR's name and legacy for their vested interests but YVS is the only director who puts NTR's picture in the prelude of his film. YVS doesn't make a film, he's a sculptor who chissels his film. I've seen the stills and they are exemplary." Dasari rounded off his speech by saying that there is a very nice dialogue in the film OM and it is a sound warning to all those who are hell bent on seperating the country, people and the industry in the name of caste.

Nandamuri Balakrishna said " i am doing dual role in this film.I don't want to reveal the details of Okka Magadu character now.See it on screen and enjoy your selves. The movie will definitely reach your expectations". He uttered a couple of dialogues from the film and after seeing the overwhelming reaction from the fans he added"Cinema antha ilanti dialogues e.inka meeku pandage"

YVS Chowdary assured the fans the movie will definitely reach their expectations .

Okka Magadu title song,Devadhi deva(Rayalaseema song),Pattuko Pattuko Pattu cheera (Challenge Ramudu remix song) are instant hits with the fans !

One incident which caught attention of all the people around there apart from celebrities and their speeches was an old man who is over 60. He came to the audio function from adoni (Kurnool District) on a bicycle with a huge flag with the portrait of Balakrishna on it.

Ravi Teja & Vinayak's combo titled "KRISHNA"

Finally, it is confirmed. After a lot of vacillation, the makers of the film have decided to stick to Krishna as it suits the storyline best.
Yes, as is the norm these days, it does have a tagline -- The Power of the Indrakeeladri. The climax of the film is being shot in locations in and around Hyderabad.
According to the film's director, VV Vinayak, the film will be a mix of comedy and action, like all Ravi Teja films. Trisha is playing the heroine in the film.
The film's audio could be released by the end of this month and the release date is being set for next month.

Premikudu likely title for Bunny film

Allu Arjun's current movie in the direction of Bommarillu Bhaskar is likely to be titled as Premikudu, and not as thought of earlier as Vaaradhi or Romeo. The film unit is of unanimous opinion that the title Premikudu would be hundred percent apt to the story. The movie with Sheela as heroine is getting ready for release on February 14 th as Valentines Day gift.

KRISHNARJUNA Logo

ANASUYA REVIEW

Starring:Bhoomika, Abbas, Nikitha, Neha Sarath, Sameer, Harshavardhan, Shankar Melkote, Ankitha, Krishna Mohan, Revathi, Prema, Mallesh and Others.
Action: Kanal Kannan.
Cinematography: N. Sudhakar Reddy.
DTS Mixing: Madhusudan Reddy.
Editing: Marthand K. Venkatesh
Lyrics: Bhaskarabhatla.
Music: Sekhar Chandra.
Screenplay: Paruchuri Brothers.
Producer & Direction: Ravibabu.
Presenter: Suresh Productions.
Banner: Flying Frogs.
Release Date: 21st December, 2007.

Anasuya is the story of a journalist whose life takes a u-turn when a psychopath killer enters her life. The movie has a gripping screenplay with a few minor glitches. It makes an interesting one-time watch, and has focused on being as subtle as possible. It's not the run-of-the-mill story. It is a very 'Indian' storyline and even if the plot and characterization is old news, it's done well and the narrative keeps up the attention levels.

Plot: Anasuya is a journalist majoring in criminal psychology. She is an investigative journalist for a news channel and lives with an acquaintance and a little girl called Lakshmi she saves from being a harassed domestic help. Anand is a task force officer in a team leading the investigation of a murder trail. The murderer kills the victim, takes a random part of their body and leaves a rose next to their body. Tragedy strikes Anasuya when the 'uncle' that she is staying with gets murdered and she spots the killer. She gets involved in the case closely and gets to the bottom of it.

Story, Screenplay and Direction The story is that of an unstable man and once the man is identified, it ceases to be a mystery. After that, holding the viewers attention is difficult. Ravibabu's screenplay does just that. The first half keeps the interest level alive alright and the curiosity is on a high. Instead of pulling in unnecessary subplots, the maker gets straight to the point. The second half is interesting and that saves the movie, because in a movie like this, it's the second half that makes all the difference. To give the director credit, it doesn't have too many shrieks and sounds. The background is not overpowering, and only has the occasional creaking and dark alleys and sudden loud noises. But these are not out-of-place or just to scare or thrill. Except for the fact that the first half has many houses and places kept in dark (why doesn't anyone switch on the lights?).

Bhoomika is an asset to the movie, with a convincing performance and subtlety in her whole aspect. From the beginning, it's a clear-cut murder trail and nothing else. The madness of the man is shown, but not explained-why, how or when is neglected, and just what it is, is shown. There are some very gruesome shots, bodies with parts missing and other such things that don't go well with popcorn.

Glitches: When the body comes out of the concrete mixer in an unrecognizable state, the clothes are intact and the glasses are only slightly broken-but this apparently doesn't rouse the suspicion of the police. The police also never try to establish a motive, and the task force is shown rounding up a place he's suspected to be inside.

Performances Bhoomika is very good, expressive without being over-the-top. There are not many dialogues, and the little kid has fewer still, and has given a convincing performance. Abbas justifies his role, so has Sameer as a jealous newsreader. Ravibabu has done his best yet, stealing the limelight in the second half. Nikitha and her friend, Bhoomika's reporter friend and Shankar Melkote do well in their brief roles.

Music and Dance There is one mandatory item number, which is just okay. Then there's a song that shows the bonding between Bhoomika and the little girl, Lakshmi.

Last Word You know those coincidences that a murder trail must contain to propel the story? Like the protagonist's kin turn out to be victims, the moment she learns where the murderer will head next is when he heads there and other such details? That happens a few times in the second half, and for those who get nausea on seeing the insides of a person might not appreciate some sequences. After all, its about a cold-blooded murderer. But the movie is interesting, the pace is good and the plot is gripping.

DON REVIEW (BELOW AVERAGE)

Film: DonRating: Below Average to Average
Cast: Nagarjuna, Anushka, Nikitha, Lawrence, Kelly Dorjee, Chalapathi Rao, Jeeva etc Dialogues: Abburi Ravi
Fights: Vijay
Art: Ashok
Editor: Marthand K Venkatesh

Camera: S Golapala Reddy
Producer: ML Kumar Choudary
Story, Screenplay, Choreography, Music, Direction: Lawrence
Released On: 20th Dec 2007

It’s film that proved to be toy in the hands of Lawrence. He used the opportunity to do everything he wanted to do. Yes, from direction to choreography to music to action to story!!! It sounds ludicrous to see how Nagarjuna agreed for this subject. It’s a wrong choice for him.
Story:Suri (Nagarjuna) is a Hyderabadi based Don but does only good for society. Raghava (Lawrence) is an orphan who lives with Suri since childhood as his younger brother. A Mumbai based don Stephen eyes on Hyderabad and wants to capture. But Suri interrupts him. Then the Mumbai don wishes to put an end to Suri. The power stunt starts. Finally as expected, after a series of kidnaps and abductions the film comes to climax. Obviously, good wins over evil. There is nothing big to say than this. It’s all the screenplay, camera work and sound effect that are required to make this plot as a film. Screenplay is average, camera work is good and sound effects are again average.
Performances:Dialogues by Abburi Ravi are not so interesting. They are quite ordinary and nothing worth to say about. Comedy is missing in the film but the audiences have to adjust only with the situational humor by Lawrence (in fact that hardly brings laughs). Lawrence appears to be very comfortable with sentimental tracks. He proved that he is poor in dealing a mafia oriented subject. He is poor with comedy too.
Nagarjuna proved to be a wrong choice for this subject. The film is lacking in conviction completely. The bearing of Nagarjuna as Don with gelled back hair style is not impressive. The only relief for audience in this flick is Anushka. She has shown her oomph factor and also acted in a lip locking scene with Nag. Lawrence over-acted in the film and his dubbing is below average. In fact it is the same voice that has been lending for him.
Music is just average. Lawrence has shown a little maturity only in music direction than in anything else. ‘Entandanga unnave…’, and ‘Su Su Soori Anna…’got good response from the audience.
Lawrence has to do home work with respect to blending proper comedy in the film, screenplay and bringing in grip in narration with right tempo.

Analysis:

The film is a clear inspiration from various mafia oriented films. The opening scene where the father of a college girl approaches Don’s gang to save his daughter recalls the film ‘Sarkar’. And the ‘bomb in shopping complex’ episode reminds Basha. And the name of Mumbai Don’s confidante, Anthony, recalls Raghu Varan’s character name in ‘Basha’. The film has myriad shades of ‘Basha’. On a whole the film lacks in freshness in narrating the main plot. It’s a film that shows the power stunt between a crooked Mumbai Don and a good Hyderabadi don. Lawrence blended a beaten formula with little sentiment and some love tracks. The film is not for the crowds those relish intelligent games on screen. It’s only for the audiences those like to watch their hero’s brawn. Being a mafia oriented flick; the film has shown more muscle power instead of showing the might of brain.
First half of the film runs with high voltage introduction of Nagarjuna and his love track. Second half becomes serious with the fight between Mumbai Don Stephen and Hyderabadi Don Nagarjuna. Climax concludes the film abruptly.
All the characters in the film (be it Mumbai based mafia dons or Goan ladies) speak only in Telugu. There is a ‘Note’ in the beginning of the film stating “We are showing everyone in the film speaking only in Telugu to make the Telugu audience understand the film”. So one has to go with the note and watch the film.
Lawrence made the film depending only on style and technical aspects. The required spirit in the film is lacking.

Nag’s Don in trouble

Nagarjuna’s much hyped film Don, directed by Raghava Lawrence, is releasing today, but only in Nizam area. It is reliably learnt that the film print boxes have not reached many areas in Andhra and Ceded areas, because of some differences between the producer and the distributors about the price tags.
It is reliably learnt that Don will not open with the morning show in many districts of Andhra and rayalaseema. If the dispute between the producers and distributors is not resolved soon, it is unlikely that Don will be shown even first and second shows today.

CHIRUTHA Celebrates 50 day's in Empty theatres

YES. Pictures do really speak a thousand words. If the above scenario is the condition of the 50 DAYS CELEBRATIONS IN MAIN THEATER SANDHYA 70mm in HYDERABAD, then imagine the plight of the other CLAIMED 168 DIRECT CENTERS. But always remember that this is not something exclusive to CHIRUTHA... Another FLOP ATHIDHI is currently facing the same situation. Even the HIT YAMADONGA is facing the same situation as soon as it crossed 50 days mark. But the producers of YAMDONGA havent tried to forcibly play it for 100 days.
SO MY DEAR TELUGU AUDIENCE & FANS , when I say that Chirutha, Athidhi or Yamadonga are claiming fake records, I don't mean to hurt anyone's sentiment. It is just that I am making a sincere effort to make the audience realize that 50, 100, 150, 175 DAYS RECORDS ARE EXTINCT in Cinema worldwide. There are no such PHONY celebrations in Hollywood or even in Bollywood. If Hollywood is the world leader, Bollywood is India's leader both Box-Office & Content wise. There is nothing wrong to learn something from others. I hope we will have more REAL HITS.

Charmi pairs opposite Venu

Hero Venu always gets gorgeous heroines. In Pellam Ooru Velte, he romanced with then hottie Rakshita, and in subsequent films many other beauties paired with him. Although, he is not that big hero now, he gets sexy beauty Charmi to romance with in one of his next films. Charmi has signed for producer Yalamanchi Ravichand's current untitled film that stars Venu as the lead hero.
Debutant Dileep Polan is the director. Regular shooting begins from December 1st.

Balakrishna appears in ‘Justice Choudary’ get up

It is learnt that Balakrishna would appear in get-ups of ‘Bharateeyudu’ and ‘Justice Choudary’ in his forthcoming flick ‘Okka Magaadu’ directed and produced by YVS Choudary on the banner of Bommarillu. The director plans to present Balakrishna in different forms through his film. Manisharma scored melodious tunes to the flick and the film is most likely to be released on January 11. Anushka, Nisha Kothari are playing the female leads in the flick, while Simran is playing a special role.

Gunashekhar to direct fresh faces

Director Gunashekhar won the hearts of the Telugu audience with films Sogasu Choodatharama, Choodalani vundi, Ramayanam,Manoharam and Okkadu. His later ventures Arjun and Sainikudu were not very encouraging at the box office. Where as Mruga Raju was a disaster .The buzz in Filmnagar now is that Bellamkonda Suresh is planning to produce a film under the direction of Gunashekhar. The film will have a cast of all new faces. Right at the moment, Bellamkonda is busy planning the shooting of the Telugu version of Bunty aur Bably with Tarun and Ileana.

Chiranjeevi is back to business

The top rated Tollywood star Chiranjeevi is back to what he had been always best at…making films. He appears to have weathered the storm that raged on the home front, and is said to be in serious discussions with director VV Vinayak. The star's latest offering Shankardada Zindabad did not do as well as expected at the box office. However, any film of Chiranjeevi instantly evokes lot of interest among his numerous fans, the usual movie audience and the film trade circles. The speculation is already rife that this new film will have lot of political overtones.

Dasavatharam : Kamal's 10 roles details

Postproduction and CG (computer graphics) work on Kamal Haasan's magnum opus Dasavatharam, which is directed by K.S. Ravikumar is taking place at a brisk pace in a closely guarded environment at a studio in Chennai under the able guidance of Hollywood experts.

According to the inside sources,Kamal's ten roles include that of an ordinary man, a traditional 12th century Vaishnavite called Rangaraja Nambi, a scientist, a 90-year old Brahmin lady who happens to be a dwarf, an eight foot tall giant, U.S president George Bush, a sardarji (who is paired with Jayaprada), a dark skinned man from Thirunelveli, a Chinese martial arts expert and a white man who is a villain.

For the first time, Asin plays a dual role in this film. In one avatar, she plays an Iyengar lady draped in a traditional saree opposite Kamal's Nambi character.Towards the end of the film, she appears as a modern girl paired opposite Kamal's character of the ordinary man.

DIRTY POLITICS CREEPING IN BY FANS ASSOCIATIONS

Fan associations in Andhra Pradesh are very much playing mind politics in their cinema Promos. In the previous days in the period of ANR and NTR regime cinema publicity was in newspapers and by mouth talk. They used to distribute pamphlets and also announce orally about the star cast and about the brief story and also the theatre names in which the film was being screened.
Then the period of Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna came and they ruled the industry for a brief period . The publicity was through news papers and other media sources .As the time passed the competition among the hero’s grew as some of the films of every hero was a hit .
As time passed the films publicity also grew in parallel to its substance. Nowadays the films are releasing but only few films are going upto the theatres and this may be due to several reasons like poor Star Cast, Lack of Budget or lack of film Distributers. Distributers also are not willing to risk by pushing the low budget films with dull subjects and star casts to the theatres .
But now a days from about 10 years some heroe’s like Chiru, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh , Mahesh, Junior NTR,etc……….are not only acting in the films but they are also maintaining their Fan Associations by giving them Financial Support and also the required Political Background .These fan association’s duty is to block the theatres with their hero’s films and forcibly ,without any crowds in them, run the movie for 50 days or 100 days till their hero’s support them from behind in all aspects .As this will increase their hero’s value
They publish false reports that their film has run for 50 days or 100 days or else to utter surprise sometimes 200 days also in about 100 centres and the collections has touched 40,50,60 Crores . These are all false reports and are baseless.
One such incident is that our megastar hero Chiranjeevi who recently came up with the movie “Shaker Dada Zindabad” was a big Flop . But in Hyderabad it was made to run for 100 days in theatres like Deepak and also laxmi kala Mandir for 100 days . But the truth is that after its release for 2 weeks it was house full then after that in the 4 th week the theatre could not gather not even 50 people as crowds/ show but still it ran for 100 days . This was also done in Andhra districts also and wantedly the movie was made to run for 100 days by the help of So called “Fans Association” .
Last year Pokkiri was released and it was a genuine hit . it collected more than 40 crores .The hero’s this year are very much interested in breaking this record. What they offer in the film is of less interest and lacks substance but they are in a greed to break the Pokkiri records and this achieved by them by Their Fan Associations .Recently and incident came into light . Pokkiri which was released in last year in April was still made to run in the theatre named Bhagiradha which is in the Kurnool district . It is said that a fan association of Mahesh Babu of that region is planning to run this film for 561 days and for that to be achieved they took the theatre for a lease period of 3 years . this is backed by Mahesh from behind the scenes.
The same is also followed by the stars like Pawan Kalyan ,Venkatesh and so on………Ram Charan Teja who is the son of Chiru is also said to follow this tradition with the help of his fathers back up . His film is an average film . But it is advertised in such a manner that it has gained 36 crores in three weeks . These reports are all false & baseless according to the box office collections . But still these are published in the media.
And now the latest is “Athidi” which is publishing that it has gathered 40 crores in 2 weeks which are also baseless when enquired .If this continues than a day will come soon that no human will be interested in going to the theatre to watch the film . Only the hero and the director with the producer must watch them .
Please Big hero’s Chiru Etc it must be you,who started this evil tradition and who have to stop this .Otherwise till now only the next generation hero’s like Mahesh, Junior NTR,Gopichand …who are continuing this saga . But if it is not blocked this false records and the evil deeds of the So called ur “Fan associations” will continue to ruin the tollywood and some day not a single person will be interested atleast to look into the theatres

Sankranti to see huge releases

In the north, Diwali is the time for huge releases. In Andhra, it’s either Sankranti or Ugadi. This Sankranti is going to be no different. There are films of some heavyweights that are being lined up.
To begin with, Yet another mega film that has become the talk of the industry is Okka Mogadu. Directed by YVS Choudhary, it has Balakrishna in the lead. Simran is playing a special role after a long time and Balakrishna has two other heroines in the film. The music has already been sold for a very large amount and given YVS Choudhary’s midas touch, there is a lot of anticipation in the industry that it could be the biggest film released on Sankranti.
Then there is Nagarjuna and Vishnu’s yet-to-be titled film which will in all probability be released on January 14. The film is a heavily inspired version of Bruce Almighty. It has singer-turned-actress Mamta Mohandas in the lead opposite Vishnu. Nag and Mohan Babu play cameos as Gods.
Then of course, there is the Pawan Kalyan, Ileana-starrer tentatively titled Jalsa. The film has not one, but three heroines. There is Parvati Melton and Kamalini too in the film.
Then there is the highly anticipated film Vaana, which is the directorial debut of M S Raju. The film is incidentally the remake of hit Kannada film Mungaru Malle and has Vinay Chopra and Meera Chopra in the lead. The film’s music will be released by Aditya Music on December 14 and it is said that it could be released on the festival day.
Though it is not confirmed yet, it is being rumoured that Allu Arjun’s film with Bhaskar who had earlier directed Bommarillu, too could be released on this day. Since it’s been a long time since Allu Arjun has been seen on screen and given the fan following that he has got post his soft drink advertisement, many of his girl fans are looking forward to his next release.
Another film that could be postponed to Sankranti or released in December is Nagarjuna’s film Don. He is once again paired with Anushka in the film. Knowing Nagarjuna, it could be one stylish flick.

UNESCO's global survey on cinema

For the first time in the world, the UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS) has launched a survey to track trends in the production and distribution of feature films. It is reported that it is the only global survey of its kind on cinema as one of the prominent and predominant cultural expressions. It covers a range of issues such as the language of films and a breakdown of market shares for national and foreign productions. The survey was launched in more than 200 countries and territories in early July 2007. Initial results are scheduled for release in 2008.It is revealed that, given the importance of cinema as a cultural phenomenon, the statistics will contribute to the monitoring of issues related to cultural diversity.

Global software giant Microsoft pipped domestic IT giant Infosys, which slipped the ranks, to emerge as the best company to work for in India. Two companies -- domestic IT major Satyam and global banking giant HSBC -- have moved out of the list this year.

Although high levels of remuneration and open communication were cited as key drivers of engagement by surveyed employees, interesting work, 'challenging' targets and growth and development opportunities emerged as the key differentiators between the best employers and other participating companies.

The best employers in India have invested in world-class HR processes and policies and seem to have a clear understanding of employee aspirations. Leadership development, internal transfers, global opportunities, mentoring, two-way communication and reward systems has emerged as a common thread in the top 15 companies.

Shah Rukh among bidders for IPL franchise

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is among the 90 bidders for a franchise among the teams competing in the $3 million Indian Premier League (IPL) next year.

Even as some of the top business names have been mentioned among bidders, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, whose name was also doing the rounds, will not be allowed to bid, as the Board will bar current cricketers from bidding for a franchise.

"Shah Rukh Khan has bid for a franchise," the official said.

According to the official, England-based Lord Swaraj Paul is also in the fray. "There are a lot of prominent businessmen and personalities among the 90 bidders we have received so far," he said. While the franchisees will also bid for the players, some 'iconic' stars like Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly will play only for home teams.

The other prominent bidders are business tycoon Vijay Mallya, Anil Ambani and Hollywood actor Russel Crowe, a cousin of former New Zealand cricket captain Martin Crowe.

The floor price for the bidders has been fixed at $50 million. A final decision on the teams, the league format and other related issues would be taken at an IPL governing council meeting on November 17 in Jaipur. The IPL, conceived by BCCI vice-president Lalit Modi and backed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and all 10 Test-playing nations, will comprise 56 matches in Twenty20 format. Many of the world's top cricketers, like Australians Shane Warne and Glenn McGarth, South Africa captain Graeme Smith, Pakistan's Mohammed Yousuf, New Zealand's Stephen Fleming and Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene, have signed to play in the IPL.

IPL will feature eight teams, with each playing home and away games against the others. After the league matches, the top four teams will play in the semi-finals with the grand final scheduled towards April-end. Each franchise/team will have a squad of 16 players registered with the BCCI and drawn from its central contract pool. Moreover, each team will also feature under-21 players and those from the BCCI's annual contract.

All matches will be played under floodlights at BCCI-designated stadia across the country for a total prize purse of $3 million, making this the richest cricket tournament in the world. There will be eight franchises for the first year and the IPL hopes to double that number to 16 by 2010.

BJP make feeble attempts on Telangana

Looks like Bharatiya Janatha party (BJP) has not lost its hope on attracting voters with its Telangana slogan, as it feels it can retain its identity at least to some extent in Telangana.

The party is now planning to carry out 'Telanagana Chaithanaya Yatralu' to create awareness about the need of separate Telangana state among the masses from November 20 to 30 in the nine mandals each from one Assembly constituency. The programme will be extended to all mandals later. On the last day public meeting will be held in all mandal headquarters in which state and national level leaders will take part.

The party will collect one crore signatures and will be submitted to the President of India and they will go the Delhi booking special train called it Telngana express as part of Chalo Rashtrapathi. One has to wait and see whether it will retain at least its present number in the next Assembly.

Hyderabad-Vijayawada section of NH-9 in need of widening

325 persons killed in accidents on the highway this year
Dangerous ride: Rough patches and dangerous curves mark the NH-9, which needs widening at many places.

CHOUTUPPAL (NALGONDA DT): Plagued with potholes, rough patches and dangerous curves, the Hyderabad-Vijayawada section of the National Highway-9 has become unsafe for lakhs of people travelling on it. While the proposal to widen the road into a four-laner is gathering dust at New Delhi, people are finding it difficult to take the highly congested route.

The road that connects major districts like Krishna, Guntur, Khammam and Nalgonda to the State capital had 325 persons killed in accidents this year alone. According to an official document served by the R&B Department, 1,536 persons have lost their lives and 6,538 sustained injuries in 4,012 accidents from January 2001 to September 2006. There has been a drop in the death toll with the introduction of 108 service and posting of special highway patrolling parties of the Police Department.

Danger factors

Official sources have estimated that two vehicles pass through the road every three seconds leaving no space for pedestrians and two-wheeler riders. High-speed lorries and trolleys with heavy loads wreak havoc on the highway.

As per the Indian Road Congress (IRC) code, a four-lane road is required where the traffic flow is more than 20,000 Passenger Car Units (PCUs). Though it is 44,080 PCUs on this particular section of the highway, a stretch of 167 km from Dandu Malkapur in Nalgonda district to Nandigama in Krishna district, it is still a two-lane road.

A delegation of people’s representatives led Union Minister S. Jaipal Reddy went to New Delhi a couple of years ago to impress upon the government the need to widen it, but it has not taken shape due to various factors.

‘Padayatra’ plan

“Rs.1,500 crore is needed to convert this road into a four-laner. Surface Transport Minster T.R. Baalu has become a stumbling block to the proposal,” Nalgonda MLA Komatireddy Venkat Reddy told The Hindu on Tuesday. Vexed with the “inordinate delay in launching the works” and also to highlight the problem, the MLA is all set to embark upon a ‘padayatra’ on the NH-9 from November 21.

Local leaders of the Telugu Desam already launched their march on Monday and leaders of all parties sans Congress, would be blocking the highway for an hour on Wednesday with the same demand.

'India sends the most students to the US'

Washington, Nov 13 For the sixth year in a row India sent the most number of students to the US in 2006-07 with a 10 percent increase taking the numbers to 83,833, according to a new report on international educational exchange.
China remained in second place, with numbers up eight percent to 67,723 and South Korea, in third place, increased six percent to 62,392, said the annual Open Doors report released Monday by the Institute of International Education.
India also dominated with one in seven (14.4 percent) of the total of 582,984 international students who together contributed about $14.5 billion to the US economy through their expenditure on tuition and living expenses, said the report.
The US Department of Commerce considers US higher education as the country's fifth largest service sector export as these students bring money into the national economy and provide revenue to their host states for living expenses, health insurance, support for accompanying family members, and other miscellaneous items.
Published with support from the US Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Open Doors 2007 report noted that 61.5 percent of all international students receive the majority of their funds from personal and family sources.
When other sources of foreign funding are included, such as assistance from their home country governments or universities, a total of two thirds (66 percent) of all international students' primary funding comes from sources outside of the US.
Not only did India send the most students to the US, it also attracted more US students with their numbers going up to 2,115, up 20 percent. Israel followed with 1,981, up 22.5 percent, and Peru was third with 1,135, up 31 percent.
However, Britain was once again the leading destination for study abroad by American students, with a total of 32,109 followed by Italy (26,078) and Spain (21,881) in the third place. The total went up by 8.5 percent to 223,534.
The majority of students from India were enrolled for study at the graduate level (71.1 percent) in academic year 2006-07. While 15 percent joined at the undergraduate level, 12.8 percent joined at other levels and 1.2 percent came for optional practical training.
An accompanying fall (autumn) 2007 survey also indicated that new enrolments from most countries seem to be increasing with 38 percent institutions reporting increases versus 16 percent reporting declines from India.
In the case of China, 53 percent reported increases versus 10 percent reporting declines. The numbers for Korea were 35 percent increases versus 17 percent declines.
Sixty percent (417) of all responding institutions have taken special steps to ensure that the number of international students on their campuses does not decline. International student recruitment trips thus seem to have concentrated mainly on Asia, with China, Korea, and India as most popular recruitment destinations.
Asia remained the largest sending region, accounting for 59 percent of total US international enrolments, and increasing by 5 percent this year. The number of students from South and Central Asia increased by 10 percent, driven by the large increases from India, while enrolments from Pakistan and Bangladesh declined.
The number of students from 12 of the top 20 places of origin increased in 2006-07. Of the eight countries in the top 20 that experienced declines, only three decreased by more than three percent.
Among the leading fields of study for international students in the US, business remains the leading field with 18 percent of the total, closely followed by engineering with 15 percent.
The field that experienced the largest increase in enrolments was intensive English, up 30 percent from the previous year.
Increases in international student enrolments were reported in nearly every state with colleges and universities in California attracting the largest number of foreign students with 77,987, up 3.5 percent, followed by New York with 65,884, up 2.5 percent, and Texas with 49,081, up five percent.
The New York City metropolitan area was the leading destination for international students, with 51,973 enrolled in area schools. The Los Angeles metropolitan area followed with 35,870 international students.
For the sixth consecutive year, the University of Southern California enrolled the largest number of international students, with a record 7,115. Columbia University remains in second place with 5,937 international students and New York University moved up to third place this year with 5,827 international students.
